This bird-tour is a collaboration between Quinnipiac Valley Audubon Society, New Haven Bird Club, CT Audubon, Connecticut Ornithological Association and Birding for Pleasure in Durham & Middlefield.

Melissa Baston will lead the walk.  She is a board member of Quinnipiac Valley Audubon Society and Connecticut Ornithological Association. Melissa helps to install and monitor American Kestrel boxes in Durham and throughout Connecticut.

Join us for a fun walk & talk at Frederick White Farm - an important habitat for the Bobolink, a migratory songbird who travels all the way from South America to nest in the grasses on this town-owned farm.  Bobolinks are a species of special concern in Connecticut so we will learn how to support their nesting success.  During this walk we will observe and count the Bobolink and other grassland species as we explore their habitats.

Grassland meadows always produces an assortment of bird species, wild flowers and plants that attract butterflies and other insects.

The walk around the farm may be very muddy and will not be strenuous as it is mostly flat.

*Bring your binoculars, drinking water, bug repellent and wear waterproof shoes or boots.

*No dogs.

*Vortex binoculars are available through a CVEF grant for check-out at the Durham Public Library and Middlefield Levi E Coe Library during their business hours. Binoculars may be available to borrow at the walk.

The goal of Birding for Pleasure in Durham & Middlefield is to engage communities in conversation, restoration and the enjoyment of grasslands focusing on birds, wildlife and their habitats!   The Bobolink and Wildlife Festival further supports this goal.
